I literally could not put this book down until I finished it! I was so enthralled in the story and world-building that I didn't realise that several hours had passed when I finished it.

I am eagerly waiting for the next installment!

I liked this so much that I ran to the store to buy the second. Loved how familiar the world and main character felt at first, and how at the same time I was drawn into an exciting new world. Don't sleep on this one folks.

A phenomenal YA fantasy series that keeps delivering!

Jon has maintained the high standard set with BoL, although he did unleash the onion ninjas near the end.

Book 3, when?

A truly talented writer that really sets the scene and keeps you wanting more. The why each situation is described is a true joy to read and really puts you in the moment as they unfold. I will most definitely be buying more of Jonathan's work. A well deserved 5 stars.

Even better than the first! Has made it a difficult wait for the third book.

Hands down the best novel I've read in the last year. The blood was pumping and the mind was racing as the story went on with each new revelation. I could not put it down until I finished it. Then after a day or two immediately read it again.

Cannot wait for the sequel!

Excellent characters and story, very well-written.

How and where do I start. I guess in the middle as the twists and turns in the book get so interesting in the middle. I took my time reading this book, normally I read books as quickly as I can. Jonathan, your way of writing and spinning a multitude of characters have left me wanting more and more. I want to know more.
This is a book that will keep you wanting to keep reading and guessing what is actually happening. My favorite is Crook, the mystery surrounding Crook by far subtle yet compelling.
I recommend this book for all readers and if I could have, I would have given it more than great, it is a modern day tale with a twist of the macabre life of the 1800's. I am looking forward to the next two morsels of your writing.

Jonathan's way with words instantly drew me in. Great characteds and setting. A compelling, intriguing and thoroughly enjoyable read.

I loved every story in this book. Every character outcome was perfect, and none of them were what I wanted.
